The data lifecycle: from collection to deletion
Published on • With Hawawou M. Sadissou and Ibrahim Doumbouya • Episode in French
What really happens to data after it is collected?
Data does not stop at collection. It is used, retained, archived… and then, once its retention period comes to an end, it must be deleted or anonymised.
But between the active database, intermediate storage and deletion, what rules apply? What role does consent play? And above all, when should an organisation actually delete data?
Stages covered in the episode
- Collection: legal basis, informing individuals and the place of consent.
- Use and active database: processing the data for the declared purpose.
- Intermediate storage and archiving: restricted retention to meet legal obligations.
- End of life: deletion or anonymisation when the retention period expires.
The speakers
- Hawawou M. Sadissou, Data Privacy expert (guest).
- Ibrahim Doumbouya, senior GRC consultant and founder of Africa Data Talk (host).
